Fort Independence was recorded, built and fortified in 1776 during the American Revolution. Perched upon the hills of Hull, MA this bunker was charged with protecting the Boston Harbor. After the war, the camp’s name was changed to Fort Revere, which it remains today. The Fort was re-commisioned and used in different capacities throughout the years including WWI and WWII. Today the Fort is in great disrepair and lacks funding for proper upkeep. On Sunday, the family and I traversed the grounds, and discussed some of our local history.
